The Dead Sea, in Israel

The Dead Sea is a unique water source, unlike any other on earth. It is the lowest (-400 m below the level of the Planetary Ocean), it is the saltiest of all-natural water sources, and it has a special chemical composition. Two thousand years ago, the greatest philosopher of antiquity, Plato, cared for by Egyptian physician-magicians at one point in his life, declared sententiously: ‘the sea washes away all the evils of man’. Where is the Dead Sea? In Israel.

There is no doubt that Queen Cleopatra represented an ideal of beauty for the ancient world. The last Queen of Egypt, she cultivated beauty as art. Her beauty kit included goat’s milk, bees’ honey, aloe vera, Dead Sea minerals and mud, black cumin oil, and oriental eye shadows.

The Queen was granted exclusive rights to produce cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and extracts from the Dead Sea after Mark Antony conquered the area for her sake. His camel caravans crisscrossed the Sinai desert to bring mineral extracts and mud from the Dead Sea. This unique sea is a curiosity and a gift of nature. Throughout history, the place has been renowned for the value of its salt, minerals, and special climate in treating ailments. Twenty-six minerals are found in the Dead Sea, including magnesium, calcium, bromine, and potassium. Compared to the 3% salt content of ordinary seawater, Dead Sea water contains 32% salts and minerals, which is why we can float in the Dead Sea’s water. From these minerals, combined with cold-pressed aromatic oils, mud, and other natural ingredients, the first cosmetics, and body care products (soaps, creams, oils, masks) were manufactured, which made the women’s beauty of the Levant and Egypt famous.

Places worth visiting include the rock cave at Qumran – the seat of the pre-Christian sect of the Essenes, the fortress of Masada, the site of the biblical city of Sodom and Gomorrah.

The Dead Sea Scrolls were found in the caves northwest of the sea near the settlement of Qumran between 1947 and 1956. Some 900 manuscripts, in Hebrew, Greek, and Aramaic, the Scrolls contain the complete copy of the Book of Isaiah, prayer texts, biblical interpretations, fragments of poems, wisdom texts, and a list of all the burial places where sacred and profane objects that made up the Jerusalem Temple treasury were hidden before it was destroyed by the Romans in 70 AD.

Masada was a strategically important fortress on a hill in the wilderness of the Kingdom of Judah on the western shore of the Dead Sea. Masada was the last refuge of anti-Roman Jewish resistance. Resistance against far superior military forces and the death of the besieged is to this day a symbol of the Jewish desire for freedom. Their courage was admired even by the Romans.

These were two cities south of the Dead Sea that, according to the Bible, were destroyed at God’s command for the fornication there. Also, here Lot’s woman, who looked back against the counsel of the angels, was made into a pillar of salt (Acts 19:1-26).

What treatments can you get at the Dead Sea

However much medicine has evolved, there are still mysterious diseases whose causes doctors have not yet determined precisely. They are severe conditions that require lengthy treatments that only relieve suffering for short periods of time.

The Dead Sea region is world-renowned for its effective treatment of dermatological diseases, especially psoriasis, atopic dermatitis and vitiligo. In addition to these dermatological diseases, there is symptom relief in all rheumatic diseases, several chronic lung diseases such as asthma and cystic fibrosis, uveitis, Crohn’s disease, and heart disease.

We recommend a comprehensive medical rehabilitation program for individual therapy of various pathologies, stays of 7, 14, or 21 days, depending on the diagnosis and severity of your condition.
